The Academy
The Project 440 String Academy will be an afterschool program for underserved children in the Savannah region with an interest in pursuing music. Selected students will meet after school daily with a certified music pedagogy specialist. Music, supplies (including instruments), and individual lesson training will be provided free of charge pending admission into the Academy. Students will learn basic music theory, perform in musical ensembles, and will be required to participate in at least one other performance based ensemble in the Savannah region in addition to their participation in their local school program. It is our belief that the study of music teaches discipline in all facets of life for a developing child, instills self worth and a sense of accomplishment, and teaches valuable life skills that can be applied both in the classroom and in society. As students mature in the program, they will be expected to teach as paid assistants the next generation of participants in the program.
The goals of the Academy
• Empower kids who may have otherwise never been given opportunity
• Inspire children through music
• Give youth the tools for success
• Discover and nurture undiscovered talent
• Expose underserved youth to classical music
